BAC Scholarship Program
Program Overview:
The art of beekeeping is being encouraged through this youth scholarship program. The Bees Alive Club of Nixa, MO is excited to work alongside a younger generation of potential beekeepers, to not only teach the hobby, but also to educate them on the industry as a whole.
Our scholarship is offered to youth between the ages of 15 and 18, who are residents of the SW MO area and enrolled in public, private or home school. The program provides all the equipment necessary for the recipient(s) to become a hobbyist beekeeper. Recipient(s) will receive an orientation and/or a book on beginning beekeeping, have a mentor, and get to have their own hive to learn from and take care of during the process. The direct mentorship and close supervision lasts one year, which is long enough to ensure the student(s) has had enough time to be on their own in the hobby. Upon successful completion of the scholarship requirements, the recipient(s) will receive a recognition certificate and full ownership of the hive.
Premises:
The Bees Alive Club (BAC) began scholarships for youth in 2014. As a club we are dedicated to provide a large part of the resources, effort, and education needed to help get youth involved and committed to the hobby of beekeeping. It is our hope that as a club, combining our networking and resources, we can be successful in reaching out to new families that are excited and willing to learn about beekeeping and become actively involved in maintaining healthy bee colonies and participating in the education of beekeeping.
While our primary goal of offering this scholarship program is to engage families that have not previously been involved in beekeeping, we welcome any student with a desire to become involved in beekeeping to apply! Family support is encouraged!
